You cannot effectively think to yourself "hmm, the music needs to change its pace right here or it'll start to plod" while the album is repeatedly introducing a brass knuckle to your face. On Megalodon , the guitar tone is less retardedly massive and the songwriter is obviously trying to focus on more conventional slam, but with a distinct scarcity of faster sections in the music, the waves of groove after groove after groove start to feel a bit monotonous and Guttural Slug aren't playing the right style of music to justify it. Sounds like a mess, a fun mess for some. In addition, the diversity on this release makes it feel like the songs aren't really unified into an album, per se, but just a collection of songs. Now, the following 3 tracks focus on brutal music only. Megalodon is precisely what its name suggests, a primitive and massive sounding hulk of slow to mid-paced pummeling grooves and utterly unintelligible burps and squeals amid a fairly impressive drum display, though it listens a bit more like an EP than a full length offering. guttural slug megalodon

Thanks to all our fans for supporting us!! There is a certain degree of flair in arrangement and production on display here that definitely bears description, and it goes well beyond establishing guttursl massive pounding sound between the guitars and rhythm section with a few occasional noodling parts and squealing harmonics meshed with occasional sampled bits from horror cinema. So, conclude that this album is basically "atmosphere-brutality-secondary voices-brutality-secondary voices-brutality".

MutantClannfearJune 29th, Well, yes, even the underground has popular currents. The vocals have more variation as well - they don't sound like they're trying to ape Big Elug in every regard this time, so the muffled grunts and such have been minimized and replaced by megaloson annoying cricket vocals, conventional death growls, deathcore rasps, and a handful of other styles that give the album more of a "constantly cycling menagerie of vocalists" feeling than Intercranial Purgatory possessed.

Its extremely short length is perhaps its greatest feature given that the minimalist and generally limited set of ideas would probably wear thin at as little as five minutes longer than the sub minute length that this thing megzlodon in by its conclusion. For the most part, this is pretty par for the course as far as down-tempo brutality goes, though it is a fair bit more competent than some other younger acts coming out of the northern reaches of Europe and Eurasia of late.

The same can be said for the piano and keyboard intro of "Sirenens Kald", which is not wholly out of character for a brutal album, but is an interesting device to be found on a slam album, providing a sort of gloomy dark ocean atmosphere before the violence commences. Bandcamp Album of the Day Aug 15, Well, there's just one word to describe this album - "brutal".

It's improved in a few other ways, but the songwriting's still got a lot of catching up to do and the band's new approach to BDM just exposes that fact even more. The small time Danish-based slam act Guttural Slug has taken this welcoming eventuality into the realm of impending violence and terror rather than the aftermath, though apart from the visual contained in their album art of a massive prehistoric shark readying to pulverize a diver and a few lyrical subjects delving into mythology and the paranormal, the approach is pretty much by the book.

If you like modern brutal death metal, you may like it. This album doesn't make me wanna headbang, so there's no risk in spilling hot oil all over the place. Slamming death metal… damn, is there something more boring and mediocre than that in the extreme metal panorama?

Well, the soft intro suddenly turns into a brutal song and then the rest of the album remains brutal. It's called Megalodon yeah, I didn't really think giant prehistoric sharks were the kind of things brutal death metal bands talked about either, but who knowsand it's I guess slam death metal fans do dig this, but I believe that if you've heard one of those bands you've heard them all, and I don't recommend this to non-fans of the genre.

Sounds like a mess, a fun mess for some. Thanks to the guys at Torn Flesh Records for releasing the album. The drums are not that bad to be honest, very few blastbeats are used, instead opting for a Vinnie Paul style of mid paced groove with emphasis on the footwork.

Bandcamp Album of the Day May 17, AsmusSeptember 15th, Even when the songs blend into one another without discernible highlights or memorable moments, this works for me as a kind of extreme elevator music. Gutteral Slug was my first Slam band, and I ended up in love with the genre!

Definitely a good album, if maybe playing it a tad safe and sticking to methods that have been tried and true for several years. Instead of a human vocalist what I envision in my head when listening to this is a giant slug being constantly rammed into a bull toad's chocolate starfish yes, I know, so many animals involved… and I still haven't mentioned the shark yet.

Eye of the Cyclops In the "body of the album" or something like this you will find the kinds of secondary voices like screams, cries, and spoken verses. They do sound like one. I mean no secondary voices, perhaps.
